Warning: This list contains some spoilers for Ms. Marvel
Agents Of SHIELD‘s relevance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a frequently debated topic across social media, with many of the series’ most devoted fans unsure of its status within the franchise but Ms. Marvel suggests the popular superhero spy drama may still be a part of Marvel Studios’ shared universe. Audiences having spotted several possible connections to the beloved superhero show.
Marvel Studios’ most recent series features a few similarities to Agents Of SHIELD, with Ms. Marvel’s first two episodes containing numerous potential nods to the ABC program. Twitter, in particular, believes that this show may hint at Agents Of SHIELD’s current role within the MCU, with eagle-eyed viewers pointing out a variety of potential links and call-backs to Marvel’s long-running comic-book drama.
Jiaying
Is it possible they’re pulling a Jiaying with Kamala’s great-grandmother?#MsMarvel
– The Return of Sybok (@saturnofthemoon) June 19, 2022
Agents Of SHIELD’s season 2 introduces audiences to one of the show’s most enigmatic characters, with Daisy’s mother Jiaying, forming a major aspect of the show’s Inhuman storyline. Twitter poster @saturnofthemoon thinks there may be a connection between this ambiguous character and Kamala’s mysterious grandmother Aisha, suggesting that Marvel may be “pulling a Jiaying.”
Aisha’s back story is strikingly close to Jiaying’s, with both women having disappeared from their loved ones’ lives under strange circumstances. With Kamala’s great-grandmother having previously owned Ms. Marvel’s bangle, which some fans have speculated to be Inhuman technology, Aisha may share Jiaying’s Inhuman heritage. This could mean that Aisha took the same path as Daisy’s mother, opting to join the Inhuman Settlement known as the Afterlife, and learn more about her biological powers. Additionally, Ms. Marvel’s third episode confirms that Aisha comes from the Noor Dimension, and with Jiaying’s origins currently uncertain, Daisy’s mother may originate from the same universe, becoming known as an “Inhuman” upon her later arrival on Earth.
Ghost Rider
Ms. Marvel’s first episode features one of Marvel Studios’ most entertaining sequences, as Kamala visits AvengersCon. This lively scene treats viewers to numerous fun nods to previous MCU releases, and Twitter user @Qeslanfrog believes he may have spotted a tantalizing call-back to Agents Of SHIELD’s fourth season, excitedly asking whether one of the convention attendees is wearing “Robbie Reyes cosplay.”
The convention visitor’s distinctive clothing bears a clear resemblance to Robbie’s superhero costume. The cosplayer’s fashion choices strongly evoke the dark vigilante’s signature look, as he proudly sports Robbie’s snazzy leather jacket.
Kree Writing
Coulson’s resurrection brought many interesting new aspects to the snarky SHIELD agent, with Fury’s “Project TAHITI” revival having involved Coulson being injected with Kree blood. Twitter’s @skyezorel has suggested this plot point may prove important to Ms. Marvelas she points out the similarities between Coulson’s Kree writing and the inscriptions on Kamala’s bangle, asking tweeters to “let me clown for this.”
These strange words on Kamala’s bangle appear identical to the Kree writing inscribed by Coulson. Known as the “Words of Creation,” Coulson’s extra-terrestrial compositions represent a map to an underground Kree city, and with Kamala set to star in The Marvels alongside the Kree’s mortal enemy Carol Danvers, the map’s re-emergence could act as a direct set-up for The Marvels’ upcoming storyline.
The Battle Of Earth
2019’s Avengers Endgame includes an all-star cast of Marvel legends, with some of the universe’s mightiest heroes providing some big contributions to Avengers Endgame’s final fight. Ms. Marvel’s AvengersCon implies that the battle of Earth may have seen some of Marvel’s TV heroes take on Thanos, with one SHIELD agent said to have published a memoir entitled “I Was There,” leading Twitter’s @Bate_t to suggest that Davis may be the book’s author.
While Marvel has confirmed a SHIELD agent to be present during the climactic fight, it seems unlikely that SHIELD’s director Mack would choose Davis to assist the Avengers. SHIELD’s brave agent possesses no superpowers, rendering him particularly ineffective against Thanos, in comparison to individuals such as Daisy and Yo-Yo, whose powers place them among the top-secret organization’s strongest spies.
Leo Fitz
Through his traumatic experiences as a SHIELD agent, Leo Fitz is one of Agents Of SHIELD’s most tragic characters, with his brutal treatment by Ward in the show’s first season leaving him with serious brain damage. While the geeky scientist has yet to reappear in a Marvel show, Ms. Marvel viewers may have noticed a sneaky nod to the ever-suffering SHIELD operative, with @FitzMurdock boldly declaring that he “wholeheartedly believed Bruno was dressed as Fitz.”
Bruno is seen wearing reminiscent clothes of those worn by Fitz during Agents Of SHIELD’s season one, as Kamala details her ambitious plans to travel to AvengersCon without her parents knowing. Additionally, Kamala refers to Bruno’s dress style as a “costume” within this imaginary sequence, adding further credibility to the notion that Kamala’s clever buddy is cosplaying as Fitz.
Inhuman
Inhumans are a prominent part of Marvel’s early television endeavors, with Agents Of SHIELD having featured some of the most powerful Inhumans. Twitter poster @EmilyJaneDancer has expressed her view that these fearless individuals may factor into Ms. Marvel’s plot, as she demonstrates the similarities between the explanations for Kamala and Daisy’s superpowered abilities.
With Ms. Marvel having been an Inhuman in the comics, Kamala being revealed as a member of this species seems a likely prospect. As with Kamala’s televised capabilities, her comic-book counterpart’s powers also come from her unique biology. Furthermore, the bangle is referred to as “unlocking” her powers, which sounds especially close to the Terrigen Mist from Agents Of SHIELD, with the extra-terrestrial vapor having unleashed Daisy’s innate superpowers. While Ms. Marvel’s third episode labels Kamala a Djinn, “Inhuman” could be one of the other Earth names for her species within the MCU, explaining why the source of her powers is remarkably similar to Agents Of SHIELD’s especially gifted individuals.
The SHIELD Shirt
The SHIELD insignia has become one of the MCU’s most iconic logos, with the secret organization’s memorable sign having been seen in various Marvel Cinematic Universe outings. This famous iconography can be glimpsed during the AvengersCon scene in Ms. Marvel, with Twitter’s @fanboyca having described how he “screamed” over its inclusion.
This shirt’s appearance suggests that SHIELD has developed a significant following within the superhero world, with many of the universe’s occupants keen to obtain a shirt bearing the organization’s imagery. This directly falls in line with the secret service’s portrayal in Agents Of SHIELD, which sees the eye-catching logo become a symbol of hope for humanity, making the show’s connection to the main MCU timeline seem like a very real possibility.

am i stupid or did i see a maria hill cosplayer ???? 😭😭– ducky !! PRIDE MONTH🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 (@ kakczka2) June 8, 2022
Although there are still many things many fans may not know about Maria Hill, Nick Fury’s trusted aide has been a frequent presence throughout the MCU, and her Agents Of SHIELD episodes are among her greatest appearances. Maria Hill is also referenced during Ms. Marvel’s first episode, with Twitter poster @ Kakczka2 having noticed a “Maria Hill cosplayer” during the AvengersCon sequence.
This inclusion of a Maria Hill fanatic acts as a fitting tribute to the level-headed SHIELD agent, acknowledging the key role she has played as an ally to Fury. Maria Hill is one of SHIELD’s most popular operatives among MCU fans, and her guest parts in Agents Of SHIELD are widely considered among the show’s best episodes, marking this an exciting reminder of the spy drama’s golden moments.
Coulson’s Aviators
Coulson’s aviators are among Agents Of SHIELD’s most iconic accessories, with the shades having appeared in several episodes of the hit spy drama. Kamala Khan sports a similar pair of spectacles in Ms. Marvel’s first episode, which has resulted in Twitter’s @ Troy_harrison1 declaring “that couldn’t have been a coincidence.”
While it may seem unlikely that Kamala would be able to obtain the same pair of aviators as Coulson, she may have a familial connection to SHIELD. Aisha’s disappearance could have seen Kamala’s great-grandmother joining the secret organization, with Aisha forced to distance herself from her family while she embarks on covert missions. If Aisha was a close colleague of Coulson’s, she may have acquired his aviators following his eventual demise in Agents Of SHIELD’s fifth season, allowing Kamala to find the glasses among Aisha’s prized belongings.
Fitz’s Drones
Ms. Marvel’s second episode places Kamala in one of her most dangerous predicaments yet, as she is chased by Damage Control’s sinister agents. Twitter user @skyezorel believes the shady organization’s drones could contain a fascinating connection to Agents Of SHIELD’s season 4, with the poster remarking that they “feel like Fitz’s drones from the Framework.”
These high-tech devices possess an interesting resemblance to Doctor Fitz’s drones from the Framework’s alternate world, as they pursue Kamala across the streets of Jersey City. However, while this would provide a cool nod to the spy drama series, it seems somewhat unlikely that these are the same drones from Agents Of SHIELD, with the impressive Hydra technology having only existed within the Framework’s fabricated reality.
